Illinois down 28-0 before the blink of an eye, similar start 0-18 in '02 and another massacre with Cubit at the helm. Probably missing another one in there. Rallied to put two touchdowns on the board and Penn State didn't move the ball the rest of the game, but offense just too anemic to get over the hump. Fun story about the train, didn't even know a train went there. Never been to Happy Valley.

condensed version of that game is on YouTube...Penn State announcers...Paterno's brother the color guy....Illini came out flat....poor oline play....both tackles Rathke/Bierman either hurt or just got owned by the Penn State dline...28-0 and PSU is passing the ball...Illini had chances Dilger open in the end zone underthrown Johnny Johnson pass....would have made it 28-21....Dana Howard/Simeon Rice two years in a row 93 94 bad games when needed vs. Penn State....in a rain storm....

Nice summary. Yes it was '93 - their first year in the Big 11. The Mrs. and I were there. Rained all the night before and during the game. As band alums, we were flabbergasted when Joe Pa wouldn't let PSU's band march. What an idiot. If we only knew then. Listening to the radio afterwards, they kept announcing the scores of all of PSU's rivals first - Pitt, Syracuse, etc. Big 10 scores were an afterthought.

Worse coach? Beckman or Tepper? Discuss.

Tepper decent human being....Beckman isn't....that's biggest difference...condensed game on YouTube...1993 Illini at Penn State....Paterno's brother on the call as color guy on radio...his brother long time color guy after he retired as a cop....brother was Joe Paterno's buffer when some booster/admin person needed to talk to Joe Paterno had to go thru the brother....they knew about Sandusky reportedly in the 80's had the rumors investigated...thought he was just messing around with other gay men on the road recruiting...so they limited his recruiting area....when the brother got sick late 90s Paterno lost his most trusted advisor....FWIW

Good point about Lou being the better human being.

When we were out there for the '93 game, I distinctively remember hearing all over the radio about Sandusky being the heir apparent to Joe Pa. Then nothing, then the case. They all need to rot in hell, especially for covering it up for so long.

I need to watch that game. I watched the condensed '85 Illini win over OSU last night. Ton of fun. There is so much on YouTube.

Joe Paterno didn't get to be the most powerful man in PA. by being stupid...1999 when McQueary passed the info. along to him that McQueary had seen Sandusky in the facility showers assaulting a boy.....Paterno took that info. to the AD/school president and when they wanted him out 2003....asked them 'why Sandusky wasn't investigated' basically telling them, 'I got this on u' and why Paterno got to stay...again 2007? doing the WDWS sports line Friday show at Famous Dave's day b4 the Illini game vs. Penn State...Jones of the Harrisburg (PA.) newspaper was on the show....long time Penn State football guy...Tate kept asking him off the air, 'how long will Paterno go on?' and Jones said, 'he can stay as long as he wants' how the AD/school president won't force him out....stuff behind the scenes...way Jones said it...being a smart ass, said, 'what did someone kill someone?' Jones replied, 'not that bad but if any of the rumors every get out it would ruin a lot of lives'....WTF? years later it came out....rumors innuendo was out there for awhile...yeah Paterno twice tried to get Virginia to hire Sandusky as head coach...crazy

Wow, I remember that Jones on all the time on WDWS.

I'd say it's as bad or worse than someone killing someone.

All just so sad, and it's disgusting they covered it up for so long. And what, they got a slap on the wrist? I always said they should have to have an Illini type decade after that garbage.
