If I’m not mistaken Cliff Stroughter was the first recruit from Contract Costa College in 82, then me in 83 to play corner opposite Heaven. Great to see J.C. doing glad to see him another season! Unfortunately CCC didn’t field a team in 2024.
yeah player U mentioned first from Contra Costa. to Illinois....1981 teams had players from Pasadena City College (JC national champs), signed 9 off that team including Tim Brewster, Kirby Wilson, Vince Osby, Moe Bias...the top JC running back in the country Smith out of Santa Ana JC, top JC wide receiver in Oliver Williams...other players from Hartnell down to Chabot out to Iowa Central...Triton in state Garden City in Kansas....with JC's/transfers/HS recruits 40 guys brought in....now that's rebuilding your roster quickly HA.
Nice summary of the CFP games. Run the ball, and stop the run. I also thought ND's QB was really good. Penn State should walk into the semi's and why is OSU favored?
Ron Turner too old school. Nice guy, but man that was a complete whiff on his part. Great stories - keep them up!!
Former Turner player said....confirmed by a former Lovie assistant in 2021....Lovie's idea to keep his job in 2020 was...to fire OC Rod Smith oline coach Smith's buddy...hire either Ron Turner or Headline Huey Jackson as OC....let Turner bring in his two kids to be his assistants....now Whitman loves Turner one of his mentors but even the AD saw thru that one....said, 'it's time to move on'.....Ron Turner back at Illinois as Lovie's OC....Lovie Smith still has Tony Dungy calling around recommending him for NFL jobs...addicted....
was going to address it in another newsletter....FYI....old school coaching network is something but what about the 'color analyst' network.....remember when watching games he does....Kirk Herbstreit is buddies with former Chicago Bear/coaches agent Trace Armstrong.....Armstrong reps coaches like Urban Meyer, Matt Eberflus, Lincoln Riley, Bears GM Ryan Poles, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day....golden boy 'Herbie' makes those comments about Ohio State fans being delusional etc....sticking up for Ryan Day..yeah cause Armstrong feeds Herbie info....then Herbie making comments about Bears QB Caleb Williams 'might not have the work ethic'.....sticking up for more Armstrong clients....power agents like Armstrong Jimmy Sexton etc have over college NFL football amazing never written about cause media types depend on agents to feed them inside info.....never ending circle
That's an area I know next to nothing about. Thanks for the education. So many networks. It's nice to see the younger generation of NFL HC's. Hopefully they change.
I always like to point out Herbie's record verses Illinois.
Herbie a classic coaches kid (his dad coached at Ohio State) that was as good as he was going to get in HS....HS All-American same year as Verduzco out of HS...one was developed the other was....mediocre at best surrounded by an all star team at Ohio State....

The old school network is everywhere. Break the cycle. That would've been really weird with RT back as OC.

Nicely stated. Herbie has made a nice life for himself as a commentator.
