old days of the bubble over the field at Memorial Stadium....someone had rolled in a basketball hoop from the Hall into the bubble....players would play 3 on 3....Hopkins, Mel Agee 'by far' the two best linemen playing hoops during those pickup games....Simeon Rice later would dominate...Agee of course going to the U to play for Jimmy Johnson till Jimmy Collins helped White going to Chicago Washington a few times convincing Agee he would get a real shot at hoops if he signed with Illinois...course that never happened....
Sad to see Lopati commit to Illinois saying he wanted to start helping recruit a class to Illinois and be “first” only to discuss ND as dream school openly and take three other visits. Bielema used to have a policy of if you are committed you aren’t allowed to take OVs to other schools. It just looks bad as far as optics and strength of commitment. I am hoping Lopati is aware of the numerous other QBs UM and ND are recruiting besides him. We need to win recruitments for premium starters if we want to sustain success. Period.
it's another great in-state class 2027 with several good QB's that r either committed or not taking Illinois seriously cause of this commitment...and now ILL. has to sit on their dick while this kid hems and haws....when he committed watching his film....knew he was too too good for other schools to leave alone....the Polynesian connection to Michigan...love of Notre Dame...but 'Fabulous' Art Sitkowski assured all he could keep the kid's commitment....yeah I know 'portal QB' drives me nuts...with all the time and money spent on recruiting HS QB's and....ah never mind
Read the Lopati story yesterday and I can't remember the last time I read recruiting story where the team the player was committed to sounded like they were in a distant 3rd or 4th place in the recruitment.
yeah early on Illinois offered Trickett...never really in the picture...kid's dad Rick Trickett long time college oline coach...might still be coaching...his dad tight with the DickRod coaching tree.....West Virginia guys like Saban, the Bowden's...
And don't forget Jeff Thomas
thanks....one day doesn't show up for his meeting and next thing staff knows he is in Miami....😳
Jeff Cumberland was line-adjacent. Good basketball player.
